THE ONLY QUALIFIED MMA STRENGTH TRAINING FACILITY IN THE CITY!

As I’m sure you are well aware in today’s competitive world, people and companies will do almost anything they can to achieve and maintain that competitive edge.

The Jui Jitsu and MMA world are no different.  It is stated that a 150 pound man can control a 250 pound man with ease and without the use of weapons, strikes or miracles, provided he knows some MMA techniques.

I have a question for you fighters out there.

What happens if that man is of the same skill level as the 150 pound man?  In competition you may see this scenario over and over again, except the two men in question are also of the same weight.

Now let’s add a third element; fitness and strength (commonly known as conditioning) level.  If one of these two gentlemen is more powerful, explosive and well-conditioned, He will dominate the other hands down – without fail – every time! In fact I GUARANTEE IT!

THIS GENTLEMEN & LADIES, IS YOUR COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE!

MIXED MARTIAL ARTS IN ONTARIO!!

Yes folks, that is correct MMA is now sanctioned and ready to go ahead in Ontario.

AUGUST 14, 2010 marked the day that Mixed Martial Arts was officially welcomed to Ontario.

Ontario is moving forward to allow professional mixed martial arts (MMA), which is a full-contact, combative sport. For those unfamiliar with the sport, competitors use a mixture of striking and grappling martial arts techniques.

Professional MMA gained widespread exposure in North America over the past decade and is increasing in popularity throughout the world. Six Canadian jurisdictions and 46 American states already allow the sport. Many Ontario fans attend live MMA events elsewhere in North America and purchase pay-per-view subscriptions to watch the sport here.

Women, Don’t be Afraid to Lift Some Weight part II

A couple of weeks back, you’ll remember we posted a quick overview challenging you, our readers to get involved in the discussion.  The feedback was limited, so we’ve followed the original article up with some of the benefits and things you can look for when training with weights.  It is perfect time for you to begin with one of our two womens only resistance and sculpting classes on Thursday at 6pm or Sunday at 3pm

Time after time I come across females who are terrified of lifting weight for the fear of looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ask yourself, do i have a beard, an “Adam’s Apple”, or a voice so deep it makes James Earl Jones sound like preschooler. If your answer is no, then you have nothing to worry about. The female sex does not have the hormones (mainly testosterone) needed for hypertrophy. Following are some main reasons why you should include weight training into your training schedule.

You will be stronger! Take control of every situation you come across with ease. Wrestling kids, lifting groceries, doing yard work, self-defense can all be very challenging tasks to perform without your body being equipped to do so. Weight training properly will fine tune your central nervous system and help you function with smooth, coordinated movements. Weight lifting will also strengthen your joints for the future. Not only will it build stronger muscle surrounding the joints, but also builds stronger connective tissue and increases joint stability. This acts as reinforcement for the joints and helps prevent injury.

Women, Don’t be Afraid to Lift Some Weight

Time after time I come across females who are terrified of lifting weight for the fear of looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ask yourself, do i have a beard, an “Adam’s Apple”, or a voice so deep it makes James Earl Jones sound like a preschooler. If your answer is no, then you have nothing to worry about. The female sex does not have the hormones (mainly testosterone) needed for hypertrophy. Following are some main reasons why you should include weight training into your training schedule.

I have a fully referenced article that I am going to post in a week or two, but first I wanted to get you thinking.  Below I have suggested some of the reason’s I believe resistance training to be beneficial and even important for women, but I want to know your questions, concerns and thoughts.

Here are a few reasons why I think women should not be afraid to lift weights as a form of exercise.

  1. Helps prevent Osteoporosis
  2. Helps prevent type 2 Diabetes.
  3. Promotes correct posture.
  4. Eliminate unnecessary fat by using it as fuel
  5. Increased overall strength levels
  6. Cosmetics
  7. Helps with sleep managment

Do you think weight training is good or bad for women? Share your thoughts and experience!

I look forward to answering all of your questions and debunking the myths that come with female weight training.

Jared taught me exercises that strengthened my core and helped me recover from a back injury. Using the stability exercises I learned, I was able to return to competition much quicker. In addition, I gained a lot of knowledge which is helpful in my training routine now.
